Educational Philosophy, Engagement, Teaching methods
Happy Hearts and Growing Minds: My Kindergarten classroom Philosophy.
As an educator joy has always been a requirement for me to myself. Therefore, in our kindergarten classroom learning begins and ends with joy. In my years of teaching, I learned that students learn best when they first see you excited about learning. They also learn best when they feel safe and loved. Moreover, my educational philosophy is founded on play- based, also student-centered learning that nurtures curiosity, builds confidence and lays the foundation for learning that hopefully lasts a lifetime. Those are my philosophies to a thriving classroom.
How I Teach and Engage
Kindergarten is a magical time of learning and discovery. In my classroom, I aim to create a warm, structured environment where children are encouraged to ask questions, to try new things and express themselves. In my teaching methods I use a mix of whole group instruction, small group activities and independent instruction. Each instruction is design to meet children where they are.
Examples of Classroom Activities
Morning Meeting:
This is where we start each day with songs, calendar time, greeting, this is an activity that is essential to practice routines and ensure that the day starts off on a positive note no matter what students may have experienced at home that morning.
Literacy Centers:
Children rotate through various learning stations. Some examples of centers may include storytelling with puppets, journal writing to practice the letter of the Week, letter match/identification games to enforce what was learned by the letter of the week.
Math Through Play:
This is where children learn math by using various math manipulatives. An example of the manipulatives includes counting bears, pattern blocks, and math puzzles. These hands-on manipulatives make learning fun.
Creative Exploration:
To encourage students' imagination and self-expression I would include creative exploration activities such as art, music and free play into our daily schedule.
